articles: about...

My interest in photography started with my father's old rangefinder and a roll of T-Max. I was captivated by the representation of a colour world in tones of gray (and later colour), and I experimented feverishly.

Photography remained purely a second-priority hobby until two things happened. First I was involved in a marketing effort at work and was introduced to the world of stock photography. Second was the arrival of my daughter (well, second on the timeline, but not in order of importance).

Exposure to the concept of stock photography drove me toward investigation of photographic portfolios, starting with stock and ranging toward fine art work. I was driven to find the types of images that most truly represented the concepts I had in mind. When my daughter came along I began realizing that I hadn't applied the same level of conceptual design to my own photography that I had demanded from existing images; I had simply been documenting events in my life. This web site is a part of my struggle to improve.

I use a Minolta camera. You can read more about it and other gear I use on this hardware page.

If you're curious about my film preferences read my oh so brief reviews on this filmware page.
