As lifted from AsiaTravel.com:
...
strategically located along fashionable Orchard
Road, the heart of Singapore's shopping, tourist and entertainment district.
The 1200-room twin tower hotel is less than a 5-minute walk from two Mass Rapid
Transit stations, and is only a 10-minute taxi ride from the Central Business
District.
Or from hotelssingapore.net:
Hotel Mandarin Singapore is at the heart of Singapore's shopping and tourist belt, surrounded by a multitude of modern shopping complexes, and Asian arts and crafts centers. The Mandarin Singapore is a harmonious blend of traditional Oriental splendor and Western contemporary elegance. Adorning the hotel's palatial lobby are two priceless works of art. Equally awe-inspiring is a 70-foot gold-etched mural depicting 87 Taoist Immortals. ...Some of the worlds' finest cuisine can be found in the Mandarin's six superb restaurants. Sumptuous spreads of continental and oriental fare are prepared under the meticulous supervision of international chefs and complemented, of course, by impeccable service.
To
sum it up, this is a gorgeous hotel well located for shopping in the biggest
centers. The food is as expensive as you'd expect in any executive capable hotel,
and it's even good quality. Service was impeccable (but then I don't recall
receiving any less elsewhere in Singapore).
If I were in Singapore on my own time or money, though, I'd probably seek out something more modest near Clarke Quay or Chinatown. I would at least try for the East end of the Orchard strip, as I always ended up walking past.there anyway.
Bottom line, if you're going to sightsee downtown, find a map and check the location of attractions before you make reservations.
